Donor Spotlight:

is truly committed to Northwest Arkansas,’ says Michelle Stephens.  “Kimberly-Clark has been our community partner for several years, and we are thrilled with their recent gift to our organization,” continues Stephens.

Kimberly-Clark has sponsored HWCEC’s infant wing since 2005.  Thanks to the financial support of Kimberly-Clark, HWCEC has been able to purchase much needed equipment and supplies.  Kimberly-Clark’s support has helped the Center provide the highest level of quality care to our youngest children.

In addition, Kimberly-Clark team members have been HWCEC board members, lending their expertise in marketing and public relations to development initiatives.

Kimberly-Clark and its well-known global brands are an indispensable part of life for people in more than 150 countries.  Every day, 1. 3 billion people-nearly a quarter  of the world’s population-trust K-C brands and the solutions they provide to enhance their health, hygiene  and well being.

Helen Walton Children’s Enrichment Center is truly thankful to the entire Kimberly-Clark team for its contributions to Northwest Arkansas and its children.

Giving Opportunity: Limited Income Scholarships

HWCEC was founded on the mission of providing the highest level of quality care while remaining affordable to an economically diverse clientele. To that end, we have provided a tuition scholarship program to low income families since 1982.

In 2007, HWCEC awarded nearly $48,000 in limited income scholarships to 27 children.  Scholarships are 100% funded through a variety of sources including the United Way of Northwest Arkansas, the City of Bentonville Community Development Block Grant, Wal-Mart Corporate Giving, and the vendor community.  In addition, many Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club Associates have given departmental gifts for scholarships.

Scholarships are based on the federal poverty limits and are designed to provide assistance to families who do not  receive child care vouchers but still have financial limitations.

Our scholarship program helps ensure that all children, regardless of the financial limitations of their households, can participate in a high quality early childhood education program which will better prepare them for kindergarten success.

Unfortunately, given concerning national economic conditions and widespread child care voucher assistance shortages, demand for limited income scholarships is likely to increase over the next year.  Continued community support for our scholarship program is critical to our working families. Working together, HWCEC can continue to provide affordable high quality early childhood education experiences to Northwest          Arkansas’ children.

If you would like to support our limited income scholarship program through your company, Wal-Mart/Sam's Club department, or individually, please contact Teresa Mills at 479.273.3552 or tmills@hwccenter.com

Did You Know?

· Demand for child care vouchers has recently outstripped available funds in Arkansas

· As a result, parents have been placed on a waiting list since September 2007.  Almost 5,000 are currently waiting for financial assistance vouchers from  the State of Arkansas
