Helen R. Walton Children's Enrichment Center

Activities

The Helen Walton Children’s Enrichment Center provides several enriching opportunities to children attending the Center.  Full-time and part-time children may participate at no additional cost.

Library

Now is the time to show children that books are fun and exciting!  By offering a library, we can expand pre-literacy opportunities and encourage families to read together.

The library is organized by ages, ensuring appropriate books for infants, toddlers and preschool students.  Other activities include:

  • big books with interactive pieces

  • a puppet stage

  • listening center

  • phonemic awareness activities

  • sight-word and phonics games

  • puzzles, magnetic letters and more

Computer Lab

The computer lab is designed to teach children to respect the equipment and how to manipulate the keyboard and mouse.  Once the children have mastered basic skills, they may choose to work on projects, educational programs, or games from a variety of software packages.  All the programs are age-appropriate and are screened for content.

The computer lab is available to any child enrolled in the Children’s Enrichment Center’s preschool department.  The children attend the computer lab once a week.  If the children are not interested in working on the computer, a variety of other activities are available in the lab.

Fitness Program

Children 3-5 years of age participate in one fitness session per week. The session is conducted by Stretch-n-Grow fitness instructors. The exercise portion consists of warm-up, stretching, floor exercise and low aerobic activity, all designed for young children.

Wellness issues such as safety, nutrition, proper rest, self-esteem and hygiene are emphasized weekly.

Community Based Programs

Our Community Based Programs are designed to provide awareness and understanding and instill a spirit of giving.  We want our children to have a sense of belonging to the local area, Arkansas, the United States and the World.

The programs teach the children about the issue at hand on their level.  The children have an opportunity to volunteer and to give individually and as a class.  Such programs include:

Pool of Pennies for United Way

(The children brought in pennies to benefit a variety of organizations in Northwest Arkansas.  The children are empowered to make a difference in their community by donating and volunteering.  Our children raised over $600 by “earning” money. We are working together to develop our your children into caring citizens.

UASO the Elephant

(Each year our children sponsor UASO, an elephant living a wonderful life in an African wildlife preserve.  UASO was wounded and nursed back to care and living a wonderful life due to our children.  Ms. June, a friend of the Center, has visited the African wildlife preserve and brought back numerous pictures and stories for our children to enjoy.)

Past programs include:

Little Friends Helping Little Friends in New York (September 11)

President Bush’s Program to Support Afghan Children

America’s Monuments

NW Arkansas Children's Shelter

Multi-Cultural Activities

Though the world is large, we live in one community – humanity.  Our multi-cultural program is designed to create understanding and a sense of pride in our uniqueness.  We have children attending the Center from all over the world.  All of our children come from different backgrounds.  Whether they have different skin tones, speak a different language, eat different foods or have different religious believes – it is important to be respectful and gain an appreciation of differences that make each child special.
